Past indefinite tense rules and exercise in hindi

Past indefinite tense rules in hindi :-

Rule (1):-

Past indefinite tense का प्रयोग ऐसे कार्यों के लिए होता है जो Past में किसी “निश्चित समय में ” समाप्त हुए हैं। जैसे-

She returned from Delhi last month.

He went to Mumbai yesterday.

The building was built in 1999.

His father died a month ago.

NOTE :-

Past के निश्चित समय बताने वाले Adverbs of Time :-

Yesterday ,yesterday morning yesterday noon, yesterday evening, yesterday afternoon, the day before yesterday, the other day, ago, last morning ,last evening, last night, last day, last week, last month, last year, last moment, in March 1942. in May 1998 …etc.

अर्थात् इन समयसूचक शब्दों का प्रयोग वाक्य में होने पर Past indefinite tense का प्रयोग करें।

 

Rule (2):-

Past indefinite tense का प्रयोग ऐसे कार्यों के लिए भी होता है जिनके लिए समय नहीं दिया गया हो किन्तु स्पष्ट या अस्पष्ट रूप से पता चलता हो कि वे past में हुए; जैसे-

She helped me.

The peon bought a cup of coffee.

His father came back.

She managed it successfully.

I bought this pen in New York.

इन वाक्यों में past सूचक शब्द नहीं दिये गए हैं फिर भी ऐसा पता चलता है कि ये सारे कार्य past में हुए।

Rule (3):-

Past indefinite tense का प्रयोग Past की habit (आदत) बताने के लिए भी होता है; जैसे-

She always came late.

He never missed good films.

She always invited me to dinner.

You seldom went to see her.

Past की आदत बताने वाले ऐसे वाक्यों में सामान्यता always, never, seldom, often, scarcely, rarely, once a day, once a week, once a month, daily, everyday, every week, every month, every year आदि का प्रयोग होता है।

 

NOTE : –

“Used to” तथा “would” का प्रयोग कर भी Past की habit को बताया जाता है; जैसे-

Gandhiji used to walk in the morning.

गाँधीजी सुबह में टहला करते थे ।

She would wait for her lover in the park.

वह अपने प्रेमी का इंतजार पार्क में किया करती थी।

 

Rule (4):-

वर्तमान के Unfulfilled wish/desire (न पूरी होनेवाली कामना/इच्छा) को बताने के लिए If, As if, As though, If only, I wish, we wish आदि के साथ Simple Past Tense का प्रयोग होता है। Verb दो प्रकार से प्रयुक्त हो सकते हैं।

(i) अगर वाक्य में कोई verb नहीं हो ,तब helping verb के रूप में were का प्रयोग होगा।चाहे Subject किसी भी Number, Person का क्यों न हो; जैसे-

I wish I were a king. [जो असंभव है]

He speaks as if he were the P.M. of India. [जो सत्य नहीं है]

 

(ii) यदि वाक्य में मुख्य क्रिया (main verb) का प्रयोग हो, तो वे हमेशा past form (V2) का प्रयोग होगा।

If I became the prime mister of India, I would solve the problem of Kashmir.

He boasts as if he knew everything about the world.

He talks as if he were my master.

Rule (5):-

Past indefinite tense का प्रयोग It is time, It is high time, It is opportune time, It is about time के साथ होता है खासकर यह बताने के लिए ‘उचित समय (right time) गुजर गया है’ या ऐसा कहा जाए कि ‘थोड़ी देर हो चुकी है’।जैसे-

It is time he went to bed.

It is time he started playing cricket.

It is high time she left for the bus stop.

 

Rule (6):-

Adverbs of time जैसे-today, this morning, this evening, this week, this month, this year, recently का प्रयोग किसी sentence में होने पर, Simple Past or Present Perfect Tense का प्रयोग हो सकता है। जैसे-

He saw me today.

He saw me this week.

He has seen me today.

He has seen me this week.

Rule (7):-

Could/Would का प्रयोग can/will के अर्थ में अधिक विनम्रता (Polite request) के लिए किया जाता है।

(a) Could you do it for me, please?

(b) Would you do it for me, please?

(c) Can you do it for me, please?

(d) Will you do it for me, please?

Rule (8):-

जब Past में कोई घटना जारी रही हो और उसी बीच कोई दूसरी घटना घटी हो, तो जारी घटना के लिए Past Continuous किन्तु उस बीच घटने वाली घटना के लिए Simple Past का प्रयोग होता है; जैसे-
She was cooking food when her husband came.

You were reading a newspaper when the postman came.

 

Rule (9):-

जब Past में दो घटनाएँ घटी हो जिनमें एक घटना पहले तथा दूसरी घटना बाद में, तो पहली घटना को Past Perfect में किन्तु दूसरी घटना को Simple Past में रखा जाता है

The patient had died before the doctor came.

The train had started when he reached the station.

The meeting had started before the D. M. came.

Rule (10):-

जब Direct Narration में Reporting verb Past Tense में हो तथा Reported speech Simple Present Tense में हो, तो Indirect Narration में Reported speech को Simple Past में बदल दिया जाता है; जैसे-

Direct-He said, “I want some money”.

Indirect-He said that he wanted some money.

 

 

Direct You said, “I need a pen”.

Indirect You said that you needed a pen.

NOTE: –

यदि Reported speech में कोई universal truth हो, तो Reported speech के verb में कोई परिवर्तन नहीं होता है; जैसे-

Direct-The teacher said, “The earth moves round the sun.”

Indirect-The teacher said that the earth moves round the sun.

 

Direct: She said, “Honesty is the best policy.”

Indirect She said that honesty is the best policy.
