हिंदी भाषा में “was” और “were” का उपयोग past की घटनाओं को व्यक्त करने के लिए किया जाता है। “Was” का प्रयोग एकवचन (singular) subject के लिए होता है, जबकि “were” का उपयोग बहुवचन (plural) subject के लिए किया जाता है। इस लेख में, हम “was” और “were” के सही उपयोग को सरल तरीके से समझेंगे, ताकि आप past की घटनाओं को सटीक और स्पष्ट रूप से व्यक्त कर सकें। 

Use of was and were in hindi

जब वाक्य में कोई भी main verb नहीं हो और वाक्य के अंत में “था, थी, थीं,थे ” लगा हो।तब ऐसे वाक्य के अनुवाद में हम helping verb ,was/were का प्रयोग करते हैं। ऐसे वाक्य का structure होता है

subject + was/were + object

ऐसे वाक्य में आमतौर पर object में noun / adjective का प्रयोग होता है।

जैसे – वह बीमार था।
यहां Subject= वह
was/were =था
Object = बीमार = Adjective
subject + was/were + object

He was sick.

Use of was/were:-

(1) Was :- was का प्रयोग singular subject के साथ होता है जैसे -i, you,he,she,it ,ram ,mohan …etc अपवाद – youYou ,singular और plural दोनों में इस्तेमाल होता है और अपने were साथ लेता है ।

(2) Were :- were का प्रयोग plural subject के साथ होता है जैसे -we ,you,they ,the boys …etc

Examples of was /were in affirmative sentence :-

1. वह उदास था।
   He was sad.
2. वे भूखे थे।
   They were hungry.
3. मैं प्रसन्न था।
   I was happy.
4. मैं निराश था।
   I was disappointed.
5. तुम शांत थे।
   You were calm.

   He was upset.

Negative Sentences (नकारात्मक वाक्य)
जब वाक्य में कोई भी main verb नहीं हो और वाक्य के अंत में “था, थी, थीं,थे “ लगा हो।साथ हीं वाक्य में “नहीं “शब्द लगा हो,तब ऐसे वाक्य के अनुवाद में हम helping verb , was/were + not का प्रयोग करते हैं। ऐसे वाक्य का structure होता है

(1) जब वाक्य “क्या “शब्द से शुरू हो :-

जब वाक्य में कोई भी main verb नहीं हो और वाक्य के अंत में “था, थी, थीं,थे ” लगा हो।लेकिन वाक्य “क्या “शब्द से शुरू हो,तब ऐसे वाक्य का अनुवाद हम helping verb ,was/were से शुरू करते हैं। ऐसे वाक्य का structure होता है

* ध्यान दें हिंदी शब्द क्या का अनुवाद अंग्रेजी में अलग से नहीं होता है बल्कि सिर्फ was/were को शुरू में रखा जाता है।

(2) जब वाक्य के बीच ( मध्य ) में “क्या , क्यों, कहां, किसके लिए”शब्द का प्रयोग हो –

जब वाक्य में कोई भी main verb नहीं हो और वाक्य के अंत में “था, थी, थीं,थे ” लगा हो ।लेकिन वाक्य के बीच ( मध्य ) में “क्या , क्यों, कहां, किसके लिए “शब्द का प्रयोग हो,तब ऐसे वाक्य का अनुवाद का structure होता है
